Peter V. Izzo

Peter V. Izzo of Southold died Feb. 10 at his home after a long illness. He was 82.

He was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, to Julia (Whitford) and Peter L. Izzo. His godfather (and first cousin) was the late legendary football coach Vince Lombardi.

He attended Brooklyn Technical High School and earned an associate degree in science from Brooklyn College. He served in the U.S. Navy as a communications technician from 1945 to 1946, and married Gloria Sicari in Brooklyn on June 10, 1950. He was an assistant vice president at New York Telephone in Manhattan for many years.

Mr. Izzo was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship by the Rotary Club of Southold. He belonged to the Southold American Legion and the Knights of Columbus in Cutchogue, and was a past president of the North Fork Country Club. According to family, he enjoyed fishing, clamming, golf and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed sports and was an enthusiastic fan of the Mets and the Green Bay Packers.

Predeceased by his brother, Anthony, Mr. Izzo survived by his wife; his sons, Peter and Eric, both of Cutchogue, and Ken, of Rotunda, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held Feb. 11 at Coster Heppner Funeral Home in Southold. A memorial service took place Feb. 12 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Mattituck. Interment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue.
