Talk about cooking for a crowd! Thanks to the Greenport Fire Department for generously providing 80 gallons of Manhattan clam chowder, hot dogs and beverages for everyone who came to the Washington’s Birthday Parade last Saturday. It was cold and windy outside, but the chowder was hot and much appreciated.

A lot of hard work has gone into the Southold High School junior class fundraiser, which will take place Friday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. in the district auditorium. Music by the Long Island band GRECO will be featured as well as a musical talent showcase with student performers. Proceeds will help defray the costs of this year’s prom.

Happy birthday to Bill Eagle on Feb. 25 and both Cindy Simco and Kim Stekardis on the 28th.

Southold junior high students of the month for January included Heather Jarvis, family and consumer science; Esther Jeffrey, foreign language; Alexa Palumbo, English; Julia Schade, math and social studies; Cora Small, foreign language; Will Tondo, art; Megan Van Bourgondien, science; and Aidan Vandenburgh, physical education.

High school students of the month were: Kelly Bosco, physical education; Emmett Bufkins, math; Ivy Croteau, art; John Ilgin, ESL; Ernie Kozlowski, science; Lara Mahaffy, philosophy; Mary Matthaei, foreign language; Cadet Seaman Logan Pfister, NJROTC; and Jacqueline Ruggles, family and consumer science.

Editor’s note: In last week’s Southold-Peconic column, we incorrectly changed the name of the annual Washington’s Birthday Parade in Greenport to Presidents Day Parade. We apologize to Ms. Byrnes, who had it right.
