Freezing cold for a very good reason

Hope that the groundhog is right and an early spring is on the way? Just think what these guys have gone through.

Several members of the Mattituck and Cutchogue fire departments, along with firefighters from other area departments,  took advantage of the recent cold weather to participated in the second installment of an ice rescue class hosted by the Mattituck department.

The class, taught by instructors from the Suffolk County Fire Academy, consisted of two parts. The first was a three-hour classroom session held in a nice, warm setting on Feb. 7. The second? Well, that’s a different story.

This past Sunday firefighters headed to the ice at Strong’s Marina in Mattituck to practice the different skills and rescue techniques taught in the classroom. Firefighters participated in several different  rescue scenarios over the course of three hours.
