Love is in the air this week with Valentine’s Day on Monday. Even though our lives are often chaotic, take some time to smell the roses and perhaps bring the one you love a dozen or two. Happy Valentine’s Day!

If you’re reading this Thursday afternoon, remember that the Harlem Wizards will play basketball tonight against our Mattituck faculty team at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door. This event is sponsored by the Mattituck Athletic Booster Club and the PTSA.

If you missed the premiere last night of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” — no worries! Performances continue tonight and tomorrow night at 7:30. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

The MHS Art Partners Club invites you to the Empty Bowls dinner Friday night from 5 to 7 p.m. For $10, you’ll enjoy soup, bread and dessert and take home a handmade ceramic bowl as a reminder that there are people hungry in our own community. Proceeds benefit the CAST food pantry.

The MHS Student Council held a blood drive last week to help meet an emergency blood shortage on Long Island. It was a huge success with 79 pints collected — an MHS record. Thanks to all who donated this precious gift of life.

Congratulations to Ashley Goeller and Patricija Markovaite, who were chosen to exhibit artwork in the fourth Annual “Go APE” exhibit at the Art League of Long Island in Dix Hills. The exhibit is open to advanced placement studio art students throughout Suffolk and Nassau counties. The exhibit runs until Feb. 16.

Birthdays are being celebrated this week by Paul Wilsberg today, Feb. 10; Billy Young, Adrianna Lawson, Allan Croce and Harry Jaquillard on the 12th; Emily Mincieli and Taylor Montgomery, who turns 9, on the 13th; and Rebekah Conner and David Martinez on the 15th.

Last week I mentioned the upcoming Mattituck-Cutchogue PTSA Fashion Show. Get a table of friends and family together and mark your calendars for March 15, 16 and 17, when you can purchase tickets for $50 apiece in the high school lobby.

One more important event to note on your calendar. On March 10 at 7 p.m., Detective Rory Forrestal of the Suffolk County Computer Crimes Unit will conduct a parent assembly in the high school auditorium on issues affecting our kids, including cyber bullying, sexting and other social networking dangers. Students in grades 7-12 will see a presentation that same day. All community members and organizations are welcome to attend.

Damon Rallis won the “Dine Around Town Raffle” in support of students who are planning a trip to Argentina. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who entered to support our kids!
