Mattituck-Laurel: Empty Bowls success, PTSA fashion show and school assemblies

The first Empty Bowls fundraiser was held Feb. 11, at Mattituck High School. Many thanks go to event organizer and art teacher Jeanne Fallot, art teacher Dina Rose, Calverton Links food manager Tony Maaiki, Ace Catering, Waldbaum’s, King Kullen and Tom Cat Bakery. Appreciation also goes to the MCTA and the PTSA for donations and support to purchase ceramic supplies; the CAST staff members who assisted at the event; Lee Harned and Susan Grossman, who donated artwork to be raffled; and, of course, the many students who crafted the ceramic bowls over the last two years and volunteered to help. We are also pleased to acknowledge the unnamed donors who opened their pockets and paid more than the $10 admission fee. As a result, CAST will receive approximately $1,500 to stock its food pantry. Each guest chose a bowl at the event to keep as a reminder of hunger in the world and the empty bowl they helped to fill.
