Police: Clerk stole $16,800 from Greenport 7-Eleven

An employee working the overnight shift at the 7-Eleven in Greenport on Feb. 5 reportedly made off $14,000 worth of Western Union money orders and stole $2,800 in cash from the register. He then finished his shift and fled town, according to Southold Town Police reports.

Police said that the suspect’s co-worker, who lives in the same house as the suspect, discovered the money missing later that morning and went home to confront the suspect, but found that he had packed his  belongings and fled.

Police examined the security video from the convenience store, which they said showed that the overnight clerk had in fact made out the money orders and taken the cash from the register.

The employee who reported the theft said that his co-worker had been working at the Greenport 7-Eleven for six months and was originally from Virginia. He was advised to have Western Union cancel the money orders. An investigation is ongoing.

Clerk robbed at gunpoint

A clerk at the Patriot gas station on Main St. in Greenport was robbed at gunpoint just before 10 a.m. on Feb. 3. The victim described the suspect as a thin black man between 25 and 30 years old, between 5’10” and 6 feet tall, wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans.

The victim said that he gave the suspect $400 from the register, after which the suspect asked him for his wallet. The victim said that he  then gave the suspect about $100 in cash from his wallet.
