HOCKEY: Hockey Fest in Greenport The Greenport Pirates Hockey Fest, which will feature youth hockey games, skill competitions, curling and special appearances by the New York Islanders’ Ice Girls and mascot Sparky the Dragon, will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the rink in Greenport.

The hockey games are limited to club members, but other events are open to the public. Visitors may, for a donation to the Long Island Curling Club, throw some curling stones from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. They may also shoot a puck for accuracy or velocity and win prizes, take a picture or get an autograph with Sparky the Dragon and the Ice Girls.

The opening ceremonies will start at 1:50 p.m. Admission to all the youth hockey games is free. The mites game will start at 2 p.m., the squirt game at 3:30 p.m., and the peewee/bantam game at 5 p.m.

BADMINTON: Inaugural tournament The Riverhead High School Class of 2013 will host the first annual John Mendreski Memorial Student/Teacher Badminton Tournament in the high school gymnasium from 3 to 6 p.m. on March 1. Each participating team must consist of one student and one teacher from Riverhead High School or Riverhead Middle School. There will be a $10 entry fee for each team, with all proceeds going to the Class of 2013 and a scholarship fund in memory of John Mendreski, the former principal of the Pulaski Street School. This fund will award scholarships to Long Island students involved in scholastic rowing programs.
The tournament will follow a round-robin format with a final game to determine the champions. In addition to the championship, awards will be given for the best uniforms and team spirit. Entry forms, which are due by Feb. 18, can be picked up in the girls physical education office or in Room 115 at the high school. Spectators are encouraged to root for their favorite teams.
