Yoshi F. Reiter

Yoshi F. Reiter died Feb. 12 at The Shores at Peconic Landing in Greenport. She was 72 and had suffered for the past eight years from multiple medical problems.

Born Nov. 8, 1938, in Mie-Ken, Japan, she met and married her husband, Peter W. Reiter, in Japan and came to the United States in 1970. She became a “Bicentennial Citizen,” earning her U.S. citizenship in 1976. According to her husband, she was a dedicated Navy wife, “serving” with him for 23 of his 30 years in the U.S. Navy.

In Greenport, she was a stalwart member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 185. An ardent Nichiren Buddhist, she was also a member of Soka Gakkai International for over 50 years.

Ms. Reiter is survived by her husband of 44 years, Peter, MCPO USN, Ret., of Greenport.

Arrangements are being handled by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport, where visiting hours will be held Friday, Feb. 18, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. There will be no service at this time. Private interment will take place at a future date.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
