Frank J. Polacek Jr.

Frank J. Polacek Jr. of Mattituck died in Riverhead on February 26, 2011. He was 94 years old.

He was born in Astoria, N.Y., on September 2, 1916, to Anna (née Kozelouzek) and Frank J. Polacek. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1933 and from New York University in 1935.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a Tech. Sergeant with a Bronze Star. Following his service to his country, he enjoyed a career of 35 years with the New York Telephone Company.

A resident of Jamesport for 40 years, he has been a resident of Mattituck for the past 17 years. In the community, he was a member of the Riverhead Lions Club, where he had perfect attendance for 32 years, was president from 1968 to 1969 and wrote and acted in many of the variety shows from 1958 to 1972. He was also a member of the Aquebogue Men’s Club and its president from 1968 to 1970; a member of the Goodfellows of Suffolk County; a member of the Suffolk County Charter Revision Committee from 1968 to 1970 and a member of the Riverhead Town Planning Board from 1968 to 1980, serving as chairman from 1971 to 1980.

Predeceased by his wife, Gladys, in 2001, he is survived by his son, Clifford D. Polacek of Mattituck; a sister-in-law, Gloria Cartwright; a niece, Barbara Bozzone; and two nephews, Frank Razny and John Cartwright. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Adele Ericson, Anne Razny and Camille Lemmermann.
The family received friends February 28 at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes in Mattituck, where religious services were conducted by the Rev. Ledyard Baxter of Old Steeple Community Church. Interment will be at the Calverton National Cemetery.
