Michael F. Zukas

Michael F. Zukas, a lifelong Southold resident, died March 7 at his home. He was 95.

Born in Southold May 7, 1915, to William and Mary (Razanauskas) Zukas, he served in the U.S. Army from 1935 to 1938 and worked for 35 years as an engineer at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton.

Mr. Zukas was a member of the Knights of Lithuania and the Southold Historical Society and was a past president of Southold Senior Citizens (now Southold-Mattituck Senior Citizens). According to family members, he led a full and good life, and enjoyed fishing, lobstering, gardening, bowling, traveling and tinkering around the home.

Predeceased by his wife, May, in 1984, he leaves his children, Carolyn Dewar of Southold and Gary, of Greenport; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 9 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, where parish prayer services are to be conducted . The Liturgy of Christian Burial will celebrated Thursday, March 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick R. C. Church in Southold. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
