Greenport: Library happenings and Conference Day
Daylight-saving time is in effect, March Madness is here, I see sunshine and am actually looking forward to doing yard work. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and it’s getting brighter. Spring is just about here!
You folks really should check out all that’s taking place at our local library. It’s so simple to do. Just go to floydmemoriallibrary.org and click on “events.” They list an entire month of happenings and I was amazed at all that’s going on there. I attended a digital photography workshop there this past Saturday with Richard Mizdal, an associate professor in photographic imaging at Suffolk County Community College. It was fantastic! Thank you, professor Mizdal, for helping me get to know my new camera just a little bit better!
I’d like to congratulate our neighbors to the west — the Mattituck-Cutchogue boys’ basketball team — on an outstanding season. They represented their school and the North Fork well and can boast of having won the title Long Island Class B Champions. Way to go, guys!
Because we don’t normally get a day off this month, I’d like to remind all parents who have children attending Greenport Schools that there will be a Superintendent’s Conference Day this coming Monday, March 21, and there will be no school for students.
To all you lady golfers, don’t forget that Barbara Koch is looking for members for a new women’s league at Island’s End. There will be a meeting at the course March 30 at 4 p.m. You can contact Barbara at 765-3464 or [email protected].
Birthday celebrations abound in and around Greenport during the upcoming week. Adding another candle to their cakes are Kathy Dimon, my cousin Sheilah O’Heaney, Monica Sledjeski and Tiffany McKenzie today, March 17; Mike Milovich, Jennifer Neville Beebe, Greg Hallock, Nellie Kavanagh, Andrea Manfredi, Cathy Bumble and Dennis Smith on the 18th; Stephen Rock and Victoria Staples on the 19th; Jared Doroski, Pete Harris, Jason Harvey and Courtney Martocchia on the 20th; Carla McMann on the 21st; my nephew Seamus O’Connell, Alyssa Kollen and Rachael Bofinger (who will turn 18) on the 22nd; and my sister-in-law, Joyelen Dinizio Navarro, Shannon Sage, “Butch” Corwin and Sean Walden on the 23rd.
The happiest of anniversaries is wished to Ginny and Roger Grattan, who celebrate their 45th today, March 17, and Sue and Bruce Anderson, who will celebrate 23 years of wedded bliss on the 19th.
Jaclyn Salottolo was the surprised guest of honor at a bridal shower this past weekend in Wilmington, N.C. Jaclyn will be exchanging wedding vows with my nephew Marcus Tooker (son of Cindy and Matt Tooker) in 45 days. So while the rest of the world anticipates Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding of the decade on April 29, those of us “in the know” know that their event will pale in comparison to Jaclyn and Marcus’ wedding the following day!
