Health Beat: Blood drive in Mattituck, ‘Independent’ series at Brecknock Hall

• The Mattituck Fire Department and Mattituck Lions Club are conducting a blood drive and clothing drive at the Pike Street firehouse on Saturday, March 19, 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Blood donors must have a valid identification and know their Social Security number. Donors need to be between the ages of 16 and 76 and 16-year-olds must have parental permission. You can’t have had a tattoo within 12 months of giving blood. • Eastern Long Island Hospital and Peconic Landing are continuing their Independent for Life series, designed to help people remain safe and independent as they age. On Monday, March 21, at 2 p.m. ELIH physical therapist Nancy Williams will discuss staying active and orthopedic specialist Dr. Fred Carter will discuss protecting your bones by preventing injuries and managing osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. The session takes place at Brecknock Hall on the Peconic Landing campus in Greenport. Call 806-8712.
