Health Beat: Blood drive in Mattituck, ‘Independent’ series at Brecknock Hall

• The Mattituck Fire Department and Mattituck Lions Club are conducting a blood drive and clothing drive at the Pike Street firehouse on Saturday, March 19, 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Blood donors must have a valid identification and know their Social Security number. Donors need to be between the ages of 16 and 76 and 16-year-olds must have parental permission. You can’t have had a tattoo within 12 months of giving blood. • Eastern Long Island Hospital and Peconic Landing are continuing their Independent for Life series, designed to help people remain safe and independent as they age. On Monday, March 21, at 2 p.m. ELIH physical therapist Nancy Williams will discuss staying active and orthopedic specialist Dr. Fred Carter will discuss protecting your bones by preventing injuries and managing osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.
