Stella Jarzombek

Former Calverton resident Stella Jarzombek of Waxhaw, N.C., died March 12 at the age of 76.

She was born March 15, 1934, in Mattituck to Joseph and Josephine (Remski) Mickeleski and graduated from Mattituck High School. She married Lawrence Jarzombek, and they moved to Riverhead in the early 1960s, then to Calverton in 1968. She worked for many years at Hazeltine Electronics in Riverhead.

According to family, she loved to crochet and enjoyed working in her garden. She was an excellent baker, they said, and her cheesecake was eagerly anticipated and happily devoured.

Predeceased by her husband in 2006, Ms. Jarzombek is survived by her son, Lawrence Jr., of Waxhaw; her brother, Paul Michalecko of Mattituck; her sister, Helen Zilnicki of Riverhead; and two grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held March 20 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead, where a funeral service was held March 21. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
