Art Beat: Art at Peconic Landing, spoken music workshop

• Elizabeth Castellano of New Suffolk will direct a production of “Oleanna” by David Mamet this month at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, where she is a junior. Performances of the drama about sexual politics involving a college professor and a student are set for March 10, 12 and 13. Ms. Castellano is working toward a degree in theater.

• The juried multimedia exhibit ‘Women: The Eternal Artist’s Muse and Inspiration’ opens with a reception at East End Arts Council in Riverhead on Friday, March 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. The guest juror is Pamela Williams of the Pamela Williams Gallery in Amagansett. Music students of the EEAC School of the Arts will perform for the opening reception. The show will run through April 15. Call 727-0900.

• The Bluffs t’ Bay Artists, who meet weekly at the Henry J. Pfeifer Community Center in Calverton, will display their work this month at Westhampton Free Library. A reception is set for 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 4. Call Joann at 886-1555 for more information.

• ‘Art Through the Ages,’ an exhibit of artwork by Peconic Landing residents and staff and Greenport School students, will open at 4 p.m. Friday, March 4, with a reception at Brecknock Hall in Greenport. The show will be on view through Sunday, March 13.

• A spoken music workshop will be offered at 2 p.m. Saturdays, March 12 and 26, at Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport. Singers of all vocal ranges are invited to explore the world-famous ‘Geographical Fugue’ by German composer Ernst Toch. While no notes are actually sung, the piece offers a rhythmically challenging text. The workshop, offered in association with the Greenport Music Festival, may continue beyond the two sessions. • The March exhibit at Mattituck-Laurel Library features “The North Fork: A Natural Beauty,” work by North Fork photographer Judy McCleery. The show, Ms. McCleery’s third at the library, includes photos she took last year when she volunteered for the North Fork Audubon Society’s piping plover/least tern monitoring program. An artist’s reception is planned for 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 12.

• Pat Olstad of Southold is March’s featured artist at Peconic Bay Winery in Cutchogue. An artist’s reception will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, March 6.

• “And Now for Something Quite Different,” photographs by Karen George Mortimore, will open Thursday, March 10, at Riverhead Town Hall, in an exhibit presented by East End Arts Council and Riverhead Town. Ms. Mortimore’s photography “portrays the extraordinary of our typical everyday lives, along with a slight twist …,” according to a press release. This show, which runs through June 10,  features images of people, sometimes identifiable, sometimes not.

• An artists’ reception for a show of paintings by Charles Wildbank of Jamesport and photography by Fred Vanderwerven will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at Jamesport Manor Inn. The exhibit, which runs through May 4, is a collaboration between the restaurant and East End Arts Council.

• Southold High School art students taking part in the exhibit “Emerging Southold Artists” at Springsteel Gallery in Greenport will be the guests at the opening reception, set for 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 4. The show will continue through March 10.
