Dolores R. Walden

Longtime Greenport resident Dolores R. Walden died March 10 at St. Catherine of Siena Nursing Home in Smithtown. She was 88.

Born April 19, 1922, in Jessup, Pa., to Gertrude (McCabe) and Patrick Rowland, she graduated from high school and attended Scranton-Lackawanna Business College.

She married Ellsworth R. Walden on Nov. 4, 1943, and worked for both the labor and war departments in Washington, D.C., during World War II. She was a member of St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport for 66 years.

Predeceased by her husband on June 8, 1998, Ms. Walden is survived by her sons, Patrick, of Greenport, and Msgr. Ellsworth Walden Jr. of Smithtown; her daughters, Linda Vallaro of Windermere, Fla., and Lori Votters of Glen Burnie, Md.; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held March 11 at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by her son, the monsignor, on March 12 at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
