Gus Scalfani

Gus Sclafani of Southold died March 6 at University Hospital in Stony Brook. He was 80.

He was born March 8, 1930, in New York City to Matteo “Martin” and Margaret (Maniscalco) Sclafani.

Formerly of St. James, he had been a North Fork resident for 20 years, and worked for 35 years as a Long Island Rail Road conductor.

According to family, he enjoyed gardening, music, movies, traveling and the outdoors.

Mr. Sclafani is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rose (née Leguerica); three children, Michele Baldanza of Coram, Katherine Snyder of California and Matthew, of Port Jefferson; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 10. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 11, at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s R.C. Cemetery in Smithtown.
