Oysterponds: Poquatuck Hall events and more

The Orient/East Marion Park District monthly board meeting will be Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m. at the Oysterponds School. As always all are welcome to attend.

This Saturday’s song swap at 7 p.m. at Poquatuck Hall promises to be quite an event. The $10 donation will benefit the floor renovation at our historic gathering place. An amazing group of musicians will perform. Call organizer Gideon D’Arcangelo at 323-1234 for more info.

This year’s OCA Easter egg hunt for Orient and East Marion residents will be Saturday, April 23, at 9 a.m. I will share more details next week.

Another save-the-date is May 1, when the North Fork Chorale will wind up its 75th anniversary series with a 3 p.m. concert at Orient Congregational Church. Many Oysterponders are among the talent in this group and Chris Franke is pitching the tickets, which are $10. It’s always a special experience.

There will also be a lot of Oysterponds talent, including soloists, at the special performance of DuBois’ “Seven Last Words of Christ” at Mattituck Presbyterian Church on Good Friday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m.

While you’re spring cleaning, dust off those hidden treasures and bring them to Poquatuck Hall on May 14, when renowned professionals will be on hand to appraise your items. There will be a fee for each appraisal and the money will go to OHS. Visit the website or call 323-2480 for more details.

Native Orienteer Fred Terry changed his decade this weekend and, although by he’s still a youngster by Oysterponds standards, it was still a milestone. Fred knew his bride had plans to celebrate but was surprised that she moved it up a day from a home venue to 50 friends at Soundview — and that she brought in longtime friends from out of town. He had no clue what awaited him. He was also tickled that longtime “honorary family member” Mazie Lindsey snuck into town and hid out at sister Priscilla Bull’s house until the evening. Congrats to Fred on his 70th and to Ethel for making it special.

Speaking of birthdays, Oysterponds sends belated wishes to Amber Cogoli on her 28th, which she celebrated April 5. While I’m at it, I might as well go full speed on birthdays, which I don’t normally do. Belated wishes to Mina Van Cleef, who clicked off another year yesterday, and to one of my favorite soon-to-be-voters, 18-year-old Brianna Van Tuyl, and her fellow church member Jen Delaney, both on April 16. Best wishes to all.

Friends got in touch this week to say the crocuses are up and the daffodils are blooming, so it must be time for me to pop north. Can you say “leaves on trees”? That’s when.

Pep Kalin is looking forward to being tucked in his own bed this weekend after months away recuperating. Oysterponds wishes you a big welcome home and hopes for increased healing.
