Cutchogue-New Suffolk: A photo contest for students in grades 7-12 and a spaghetti dinner/fundraiser

The Cutchogue Fire Department, in conjunction with United Fire Company No. 1 and the CFD Ladies Auxiliary, held its annual installation of officers and awards dinner at East Wind Caterers. Attendees included local dignitaries, department members and their guests. David Fohrkolb was sworn in as the 41st Chief of Department, along with First Assistant Chief Antone Berkoski and Second Assistant Chief William Brewer. Volunteers were honored for their service to the community. Proclamations, special awards and gifts were presented to outgoing Chief Andrew McCaffery for his service.

Awards were also presented to recognize firefighter John Zaveski for 60 years of active service and ex-Chief James Fogarty Sr. and firefighter Thomas Roslak for 50 years or active service. Awards were presented to Paul Jablonski, 2010 Firefighter of the Year; Kenneth Burns, 2010 EMS Provider of the Year; and Matthew Rolle. 2010 Probationary Member of the Year. Ex-Commissioner James Fogarty Sr. and Ex-Chief and Commissioner Joe Zuhoski also received special awards. The CFD and our community extend congratulations and thanks to all the honorees and award-winners.

Congratulations to the Pennacchia family, who will soon be reopening their restaurant A Touch of Venice at the former site of Fisherman’s Rest in the heart of Cutchogue. Some of you may not know that they’ve been summer residents of our community since long before they opened a restaurant.

The Southold Youth Bureau invites budding photographers in grades 7 through 12 to enter a photo contest by submitting a picture that best represents what Southold means to you. Email entries (one per student) by April 30 to [email protected]. Be sure to include your name, grade and school. Prizes and proclamations will be awarded.

Lady golfers wanted for a nine-hole league at Island’s End in Greenport. Play Wednesdays at 4 p.m., May 11-Oct. 12. For costs and details, call Barbara Koch, 765-3464, or Bill Fish, 477-0777, ext. 16.

The Mattituck Booster Club presents “A Night in Italy” spaghetti dinner, Friday, April 29, 5-8 p.m. at the Mattituck High School cafeteria. Eat in or take out for $10, or $8 for students and children. Proceeds benefit the MHS baseball and cheerleading teams. Get tickets at the door, at Love Lane Sweet Shoppe and at home baseball games.

At the library: The Friday Family Flick at 2 p.m. on April 22 is “Tangled” and the Friday Night Movie at 7 is “Winter’s Bone” (R). On Tuesday, April 26, at 6:30 p.m. learn how to finish your college degree with SUNY/Empire State College; registration required. Six weeks of Tai Chi and Qi Gong, begin Wednesday, May 4, from 5-6 p.m. Series runs through June 8. Cost is $30.
