Greenport: women’s golf league, smoking-cessation clinic

I don’t know who got Mother Nature so angry, but could you please apologize? Seriously! These unseasonably cool temperatures are most certainly not to my liking.

Amy Pacholk Diagne was the guest of honor at a baby shower held at the Harborfront Inn this past Sunday. More than 50 people were on hand to help Amy celebrate the upcoming birth of her little girl. Congratulations and best wishes, Amy and “Pop.”

Barbara Koch is still working to put together a women’s golf league at Island’s End. Here are the particulars, per Barbara: Members will play nine holes starting at 4 p.m. May 11 through Oct. 12. The cost to join is $30 (prize money) $25 for a cart (required) and $35 to register for handicap. Everyone must have a handicap: 10 for 18 holes or 20 for nine holes. You may use old score cards. The $65 total must be paid by check by May 1 to Island’s End Golf Course. For more details call Barbara at 765-3464 or Bill Fish at 477-0777, ext. 16.

‘Learn to be Tobacco Free’ is the name of a clinic to be held at Eastern Long Island Hospital from 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays, April 18 and 25 and May 2, 9, 16 and 23. Call 477-5121 to register.

Don’t forget the Southold Rotary fundraising dinner on April 26 at the Soundview in Greenport, offering your choice of chicken and ribs or salmon from noon to 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from any Southold Rotarian or at the door. Takeout will be available. Proceeds go to Rotary projects such as scholarships for local high school students, Eastern Long Island Hospital, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck in Center Moriches, Maureen’s Haven, the Greenport after-school program, holiday food baskets, Rotary Youth Exchange, the Interact and Early Act clubs, and an ongoing effort to eradicate polio worldwide.

Belated birthday wishes go out to Lara Hunt, granddaughter of former Greenporters Della and Ken Watson, who celebrated her 10th birthday on April 4.
