Herbert Hoffman

Herbert Hoffman of Southold died April 16 in Greenport at the age of 89.

He was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Brooklyn to George and Louise (Trumpish) Hoffman. He served as a private first class in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Victory, the Asiatic Pacific Service, Good Conduct and Philippines Liberation medals.

Formerly of Deer Park, he had lived in Southold for the past 30 years. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greenport and American Legion Griswold-Terry-Glover American Legion Post No. 803 in Southold.

Mr. Hoffman is survived by his wife, Marion, whom he married Feb. 5, 1977; and three children, Terry, of Lindenhurst; Timothy, of Port Orchard, Wash., and Barbara Herrmann of Center Moriches.

Funeral services were held April 19 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. Garret Johnson. Interment with military honors followed at Cutchogue Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes.
