Greenport: Tree Day coming May 19

It’s now time to have a serious talk with the powers that be. My feet are begging to be bare, so it really is time to turn up the heat outdoors. Come on, Mother Nature, I know you can do it!
Greenport High School’s senior class will hold a car wash in the school’s circular drive this Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  There’s no set cost; they’re asking for donations instead.

Once your car is all spiffed up, head on over to the dinner at Holy Trinity Church Saturday at 6 p.m., featuring gourmet Italian dishes and wines. Tickets are $25, reservations are required and proceeds will benefit charity and community services. To reserve, call 477-0855.

Congratulations and all of life’s blessings to Deborah Angevine and Warren Bondarchuk, who will be exchange wedding vows this Sunday, May 15.

Greenport’s Arbor Day and Tree Day tradition continues with a tree planting and dedication Thursday, May 19, at 10 a.m. at Greenhill Cemetery. This year the community will honor the contributions of Dave Horton, whose dedication to planting trees in Greenport enhanced the quality of life there for generations.

Congratulations to the acolyte team members from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, who were honored May 8: Jacob Boivin, Blayr and Payge Corazzini, Amanda Dickerson, Jackie and Toni Esposito, Breana and Zach Gibbs, Rebecca Hammerle, Ben and Zach Hinsch, Brian and Justin Lademann, Claire O’Kane, Oliver Orr, Ryan Mazzei, Shannon Quinn, Amber and Tyler Rochon and Roy Schelin III.

My sincerest sympathies to Lynn Montgomery and Roberta Kruszeski and their families on the passing on their mom, “Re” Kalin, who passed away last Saturday.

Belated birthday wishes to Maria DeJesus, who turned 89 on May 4. To help her celebrate, her oldest daughter, Barbara, came in from California. Her grandson Xavier made the trip from Connecticut this past weekend for a birthday/Mother’s Day celebration. Happy birthday! I hope it was wonderful!

Celebrating birthdays this week are Carl Chute and Sue Anderson on May 12; Zachary Daniel, Danielle Volinski, Mike Sepenoski and Hayley Baker on the 13th; Candice Manwaring, Dominick Hooten and Christopher Fisher on the 14th; Cliff Harris, Amber Smith-Breese, Ahkee Anderson and Michael Quillin on the 15th; Nicole Moore, Chloe Creighton and George Capon on the 16th; Marissa Klipp on the 17th; and Mary Charters and Natalie Hocker on the 18th.

Special birthday wishes this week to one very special lady — my mother-in-law, Marie Dinizio, who celebrates May 17.  These wishes are coming from her husband, Jim, as well as Joy, Ralph and Kris, Jim, Joan, Jenn, Dan, Jeff and Lori, Cindy, Matt, Marcus, Jaclyn and Caitlyn, Teresa, Kip, Seamus and Kaleen and Mike, Chris, Stevi and Maggie. Happy birthday, mom!

The happiest of anniversaries this week to Patty and Carlos DeJesus, who celebrate their 33rd on May 14, and my sister-in-law and her husband, Cindy and Matt Tooker, who toast 27 years of wedded bliss on the 18th.

Speaking of the Tookers, what a wonderful time we had last weekend at Carolina Beach in Wilmington, N.C. Jim’s brother and sisters and their families gathered for the marriage of Cindy’s son, Marcus Tooker, to Jaclyn Salottolo.  It was a pleasure to meet Jaclyn’s parents, Alice and Dan Salottolo, and grandmother, former Mattituck summer resident Joan Bascomb.
