Cops: Intoxicated Greenport man thought he was knocking on his own door

A Greenport man was arrested just before 5 a.m. Saturday, after police said that he was found repeatedly knocking on the door of a First Street, Greenport residence that he believed was his own home.

Police said Fredrick J. Rempe, Jr., 31, was highly intoxicated, and that he refused to leave the area after numerous requests by officers to leave, using obscene language.

When Mr. Rempe was placed under arrest, he fell to the ground and began kicking the arresting officer and not allowing himself to be handcuffed, according to police reports. He was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest

Mr. Rempe was taken to headquarters and held for arraignment.
