Charles Cartselos

Charles Cartselos of Greenport died suddenly on May 18 in Greenport. He was 45.

He was born June 23, 1965, in New York City to Charles and Elpiniki (Kandounatakis) Cartselos, and was raised with three siblings. He graduated from Mattituck High School in 1983. On July 1, 2010, he married Rebecca Lillis at First Presbyterian Church of Southold, and they spent their honeymoon in Greece, one of Charlie’s favorite places.

Charles was a chef at various local restaurants on the North Fork, including the Soundview Restaurant and Hollister’s Restaurant. He was best known for his work at Cheesy Charlie’s Pizzeria in Southold.

According to family members, he loved the outdoors and spent all his free time fishing in local waters. He had a passion for travel and learning about new places. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; his daughter, Nicole Cartselos of Greenport; his mother, Elpiniki, of Cutchogue; his brother, George (Regina), of Southold; his sisters, Lola (Jeff) Pabian of Lincoln, Neb., and Sophie Cartselos of Southold; and his brothers-in-law, Gary Lillis of Duncan, S.C., and Daniel Lillis of Greenport. He was predeceased by his father, Charles, on Nov. 24, 2010.

The family received relatives and friends May 22 at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. Funeral services were conducted May 23 at the Greek Orthodox Church of Transfiguration of Christ in Mattituck. Interment followed at Cutchogue Cemetery.
