Cutchogue-New Suffolk: Fundraising Breakfast June 5

I write this column knowing I was remiss in not acknowledging Memorial Day in my last one. I hope your holiday weekend was filled with the thoughts of those who gave and give of themselves so that we may live the American Dream — and everything that represents.

All the best to the Mattituck High School Class of 2011. I hope your prom was memorable in the best way possible!

Many years ago the Cutchogue Fire Department’s Victoria-Glover Scholarship was established to acknowledge the accomplishments of local high school seniors. This year’s scholarship fundraiser, the annual all-you-can-eat breakfast, will be held at the firehouse Sunday, June 5, from 8 a.m. to noon. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, muffins, juices, coffee and tea will be served; $8 for adults, $4 for children. Call 734-6907 for more information.

As you drive by the “Welcome to Cutchogue” sign be sure to notice the beautiful flowers underneath and thank the young Cub Scouts from Den 8, Pack 39: Joseph Corso, Cade Patchell, Christopher Dinizio, Sean Urick and Adam Kaya. To earn their outdoor activity award, the scouts did the plantings as an outdoor service project for the community.

Bill Flatley of the Knights of Columbus has dedicated years to its annual basketball competition. He was happy to share that this year’s competition brought good and even better news: five district winners plus 10-year-old Mackenzie Daly as state champion in her age group. The Daly family won a visit to West Point, including a personal tour led by a West Point Cadet, a barbecue and an all-around good day! Last Friday, our local K of C chapter honored all the winners with an appreciation awards dinner.

Speaking of celebrations, belated happy belated birthday to Andrew Voegel.

Coming up at Cutchogue New Suffolk Library: “Hats off to African Tales” for ages 4 and 5, Saturday, June 4, 10:30-11:15 am. Story, activity and snack. Better Hearing seminar, Monday, June 6, 3 p.m. Free hearing screening at 2 p.m. Sponsored by Peconic Ear, Nose & Throat. Call 734-6360 to register for both.

Have a good week
