Alice Marie Kalin

Alice Marie Kalin, known as “Re,” died May 7 at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. She was 81.

She was born Dec. 30, 1929, in Greenport to Alice (Rogers) and Francis Brooks. She graduated from Greenport High School in 1947, and she married Robert Kalin in Greenport on Sept. 12, 1948.

She was a homemaker for most of her adult life and was a member of Greenport United Methodist Church, where she volunteered in the thrift shop. She was also a member of Greenport Homemakers, serving as its president for several years, and a volunteer at Stirling Historical Society.

According to family members, she loved to read, was an avid card player and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing.

Predeceased by her husband in 1997, Ms. Kalin is survived by her daughters, Lynn Montgomery of Cutchogue and Roberta Kruszeski of Greenport; her siblings, Frances Franke of Southold and Courtland Brooks of Coos Bay, Ore.; five granddaughters; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours  are scheduled for May 10 from 3 to 7 p.m.  at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport, where a service will take place May 11 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Stirling Cemetery in Greenport, officiated by the Rev. Young Kirl Kim of Greenport United Methodist Church.

Donations may be made to the memorial fund or thrift shop at Greenport United Methodist Church or the Greenport Fire Department Rescue Squad.
