Greenport: Empty ink cartridges and outdated cell phones needed

We did it! We got through the rainy April doldrums. I’m predicting sunny skies and smooth sailing ahead for all of us!

First on the agenda: Treat yourself to some pretty spring flowers by heading on out supporting the annual Greenport PTA plant sale in the school lobby. The dates are Wednesday, May 4, through Friday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and again on Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. until noon on the front lawn.

While you’re spring cleaning, don’t forget to gather those empty laser and inkjet printer cartridges and outdated cell phones and donate them to the school. The PTA will then be able to exchange them for technology and recreational products or even cash. Community and business supporters can drop off cartridges and cell phones at the school between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through the end of May.

I’m pleased to report that it didn’t take Nelson Wetmore three years to see that he’d made it into my column. He has threatened photographic retaliation when he heads north this summer, so if you don’t see me around this summer, you’ll know why: I’m in hiding!

Special birthday wishes go out this week to one very special man: my father-in-law, Jim Dinizio, who celebrates on May 5. Happy birthday, Pop-pop!

Also celebrating this week are Joyce Ruthinoski, Mike Checklick, Gary Ostroski and Alexa Suess on the 5th; Mike Claps, May Burns, Fred Davis and Kim Douglass on the 6th; my niece Maggie Dinizio and Mairi Creedon on the 7th; Jennifer Bond, Stu Rachlin, Sarah Gillooly and May Watson on the 8th; Ryan Burgos and Josh Kapell on the 9th; and Billy Schulz, Kristy Harris, my oh-so-dear cousin Kathy Wallace, Amanda Mazzaferro and Shakoya Nichols on the 11th.

By the time you read this, Jim and I will have returned from our trip to North Carolina, where we witnessed my nephew, Marcus Tooker, exchange wedding vows with Jaclyn Salottolo. I can’t report what hasn’t happened (although I have in some instances), so stay tuned next week! I can, however, congratulate the newly married couple, so congratulations, Jaclyn and Marcus!
