Health Beat: San Simeon seniors medal in games

• For the third consecutive year, seniors at San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing, Rehabilitation and Adult Day Care have won a gold medal for performance at St. Joseph College’s Golden Games in Patchogue. Ron Jacobs got 14 out of 16 possible points to lead all scorers in the basketball free-throw event. Marilyn Stevens took a silver medal in women’s basketball and San Simeon’s volleyball team won a silver medal.

“Practice pays off,” said recreation director Margo DeVito, who began training the seniors several months ago. San Simeon competed with teams from 13 care facilities in Suffolk County in a competition that has been a spring highlight since 1989.

• The North Fork Women for Women Fund is sponsoring an introductory pilates class at Congregation Tifereth Israel on Fourth Street in Greenport on Sunday, June 5, 11 a.m.-noon. Call 477-8464.

• Cutchogue New Suffolk Library will sponsor an infant and child CPR class on Tuesday, May 31, 6-9 p.m. The fee for the class is $35.

• Eastern Long Island Hospital’s car raffle was won by Jamie Conklin of Riverhead, who can choose to receive either a 2011 Jeep Compass or $10,000. Second prize, two tickets to the hospital’s gala, went to Vincent Jarvisof New York.
