Mattituck-Laurel: Tickets still available for Mattituck Fire Department’s cocktail party on May 21

May is hitting its peak, with flowers blooming and everything turning green, so I’d bet that the White House rose garden was a spectacular vision last week when the Jacobs family saw it last week. The occasion was a rose garden ceremony at which Steven Jacobs, a member of the Suffolk County Police Department, was honored there with a “Top Cop Award” from the National Association of Police Organizations. He earned the award for his work with multiple agencies and officers on a 17-year cold case homicide in South Carolina, which resulted in an arrest of two suspects last July. Steven and his family — wife, Sue, and children, John and Caitlin — also had the opportunity to meet President Obama. Congratulations! What a memory-making moment!

The Brisottis have much to cheer about this week. Oldest son Daniel will graduate June 12 from Union College. And son Matthew, a junior at Drew University and a member of its tennis team, was selected “Player of the Week” and was named All Conference for the third year in doubles and for the second year in singles. Who knows what records he can break in his senior year? Good luck, Matt!

Birthday candles will be ablaze this week for Molly Kowalski on the 21st; Allison Olsen on the 20th; Taylor Altman, James McDonald, Kevin Litchhult and Brady Ulmet Jr. on the 21st; Frank Benedetto on the 22nd; Stacey Moyer and Jay Slotkin on the 23rd; Richie Koch and Alison Mehan on the 24th; and Dot Nine on the 25th.

So if you graduated in 1986, you are cordially invited to attend this year’s 10 a.m. ceremony at Mattituck High School.

Congrats to T.J. Wells, who graduated last weekend from York College with a B.A. with honors in social studies and history, with very proud parents, Jim and Cindy Wells, and proud grandparents Jim and Nancy Wells in attendance.
