Mildred Valentine Glowacki

Mildred Valentine Glowacki, 91m of Mattituck, passed away on May 3, 2011. Born May 28, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of Martha Hunter Valentine and Jesse Valentine.

Mildred was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Clarence Glowacki; a sister, Jesse Valentine; and a daughter, Linda Glowacki Goldsmith.

She was a homemaker until her fifties, living in Elmont, Garden City and Augusta, Ga. Shortly after Clarence retired at the age of 57 in 1973, they returned to Mattituck from Augusta for retirement. Mildred started to work at North Fork Bank operations department in Mattituck and enjoyed 27 years of service until she retired at age 85 after a fifth battle with cancer.

She held the admiration of her family and friends for her strength of will and determination.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Patricia Thaxton of Atlanta, Ga.; her son, Charles Glowacki of Peconic; her son-in-law, Allan Goldsmith of Southold and Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was held May 6 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Mattituck. Burial followed at Calverton National Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Coster-Heppner Funeral Home.

Donations in Mildred’s name may be made to East End Hospice, Little Flower Children’s Services, North Shore Animal League or the local animal shelter, as she loved and supported these organizations.
