Southold-Peconic: Hosts needed for North Fork Ospreys’ summer season

While enjoying the long-awaited sunshine this past weekend, I felt a little guilty as the residents of the South suffered such great losses after the devastating tornadoes. Let’s keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

Carol Taplin enjoyed an Easter visit from her granddaughters, Courtney Southworth and Amanda Taplin, who arrived from West Palm Beach, Fla., and had a nice time here in Southold.

Many of you enjoyed watching the North Fork Ospreys play baseball at Cochran Park in Peconic last summer. The team is gearing up for another exciting season, but housing is still needed for some of the players. If you have an extra bed in your home and would be willing to host a player for two months, call Brian Hansen at 765-4709 or Jeff Standish at 765-3107. Those who’ve hosted players in the past can tell you what a fun and enriching experience it is.

A wedding is in the future for the Czartosieski family. Jen Czartosieski, daughter of Chuck and Anita of Pennsylvania, will become the bride of Scott Kennedy of Westhampton in 2012. Congratulations!

Pat Haggerty is on the mend after undergoing surgery at Winthrop Hospital this past week. Let’s hope he’s home for his birthday on May 4. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

When he’s not hard at work as a second-grader at Southold Elementary School, Benjamin Ward spends his spare time playing ice hockey. He recently made the Suffolk PAL Tier 1, AAA Mite Gold travel team. Great job, Benjamin!

Catch a preview of the Southold High School music department’s spring concert on Friday, May 13, at 11:30 a.m. in the district auditorium. All senior citizens are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served after the performance.

The SHS Interact Club will participate in the Great Strides walk for Cystic Fibrosis on Saturday, May 14, at Blydenburgh Park in Smithtown. Then, on Wednesday, May 25, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. the club will hold its annual blood drive in the high school gym. Mark your calendars.

Happy birthday to Dan McGunnigle on May 9 and both Liz Anderson and Peter Van Mater on the 11th.
Cathleen and Matt Davis wish their triplet boys — Tristan, Kyle and Aaron — a happy 2nd birthday on May 11 and say, “We love you so much and can’t believe how big you have gotten.”

Congratulations to Jonathan Schlacter and Amy Beasley, who were married April 21 on the beach in Punta Cana. Beautiful weather and a picture-perfect setting made this an extra-special day. Proud parents are Carol and Dwight Beasley and Cheryle and Tom Amara of Southold.

Happiest wishes to all the moms for a wonderful Mother’s Day this Sunday. Thanks for all you do!
