Baseball: Inning-by-inning recap of Mattituck’s 9-8 loss in the Regional Finals
The Mattituck baseball team lost 9-8 to the Briarcliff Bears of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. in the Class B Regional Final at Pace University.

Mattituck jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on RBI hits from Tom Ascher, Rauseo and Steve Ascher. The Tuckers could have done more damage, but they made two outs on the base paths.

Briarcliff answers with three runs on a double by Ship. Mattituck starter Tom Ascher struck out the first two batters of the inning before the Bears’ rally.

Huegel smashed a two-run home run off relief pitcher Rauseo. Tom Ascher moved over to play first base after complaining of a tired arm.
