Raymond A. McKeighan

Raymond Albert McKeighan, 76, died on Monday, May 30, 2011, at Williamsburg Landing, Williamsburg, Va. He is survived by his grieving wife, Alice A. McKeighan, of their home address. They were married on December 28, 1988. They moved to the Landing six years ago.

Raymond was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on February 17, 1935. He graduated from the University of Miami, Fla., and received his Master’s Degree from Adelphi University in New York. His occupation was teaching history and government at Riverhead High School on Long Island for 33 years. He was greatly admired as an educator and in 1989 received the News-Review Educator of the Year award from Times/Review Newspapers.He was a member of the Episcopal Church, presently at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church in Williamsburg.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by children from a previous marriage that ended in divorce: daughter, Kathleen (Rory) Simpson of Morgantown, W. Va., and son, Michael (Beth) McKeighan of Bronxville, N.Y. He leaves four grandchildren, Melissa (Christian) Martinkat, Loralee Simpson, Jana Kate Simpson and Michael John McKeighan Jr., to mourn his loss. Six cousins also grieve and Alice’s nieces and nephews, who loved him as their own, do also. Ray was a man of many friends from throughout his life.

A memorial service and reception will be held at the Williamsburg Landing Auditorium on June 23, 2011, at 2 p.m. The Rev. John Kerr of Bruton Parish Episcopal Church will officiate. Raymond has been cremated and his remains sent to Arizona for inurnment. Arrangements by Nelsen Funeral Home; online condolences may be expressed at www.nelsencares.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23185. Ray loved all animals, Pepe, our poodle, and Kacy, our kitty, who chose him while at the HHS.
