Leon L. Munier Jr.

Longtime Laurel resident Leon L. Munier Jr. died Jan. 6 at the age of 82.

He was born Nov. 26, 1928, in White Plains, N.Y., and grew up in Hartsdale. He attended the University of Kansas until a car accident cut short his matriculation. He later graduated from the University of Miami, then earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale University.

Mr. Munier worked in Miami on various projects and eventually returned to New York City, where he was the set designer for NBC’s “Today Show” from 1968 to 1985. He then worked freelance, creating set designs for many off-Broadway shows, while dividing his time between Manhattan and his home in Laurel. He retired to Laurel, where family members said he enjoyed the wonderful view and loved to entertain them and his many friends.

He is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews and two cats.
