Health Beat: ELIH auxilian appointed

• Eastern Long Island Hospital volunteer Vickie DeFriest of Southold has been elected president of the Nassau-Suffolk Council of Hospital Auxiliaries. Ms. DeFriest, an ELIH auxilian since 1996, will serve a one-year term. She is currently secretary of the ELIH Board of Trustees and chair of the local auxiliary board and is a past member of the East End Health Alliance board and the Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation.

• Audiologist Dr. Barbara Prestano of Peconic ENT will conduct free hearing tests at Mattituck-Laurel Library on Friday, July 1, 1-3 p.m. Call 298-4134.

• Cutchogue New Suffolk Library will offer free hearing screenings on Thursday, June 30, at 2 p.m. followed by a discussion on Our Ears and the World of Sound at 3 p.m. Call 734-6360.

A program on sun safety for children ages 5 to 8 will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2:30-3 p.m. Each child will receive a hat, sunglasses and suntan lotion. Call 734-6360.

Tai Chi and Qi Gong sessions will be held on New Suffolk Beach on Thursdays, 5 to 6 p.m., from July 7 through Aug. 11. There’s a $30 fee for all six classes. Call 734-6360.

A summer series of yoga classes will be held at the library on Thursdays, July 7 through Sept. 8, 6-7:30 p.m., with no class on Aug. 4. The fee for the full program is $60. Call 734-6360.
