G. Love to perform Fourth of July concert at Jedediah Hawkins
Blues rocker G. Love is headlining a Fourth of July barbecue and concert at the Jedediah Hawkins Inn in Jamesport.
Calling the Summer of Love concert event “semi-private” in recent blog entries, the organizers are charging $200 for a total of 90 tickets to see G. Love — frontman for the band G. Love & Special Sauce, which is currently touring with the Dave Matthews Band — in an intimate setting.
“I think I’ve got about 20 left, maybe 22 tickets left,” said Michael Kaminski, the inn and restaurant director, on Tuesday.
The Fourth of July event will also feature Bryce Larsen, an American Idol Season 9 finalist, and other acts, as well as a massive cook-out, according to the blog posts.
“Chef Keith will be pulling out all the stops,” according to last week’s entry, which made the G. Love announcement. “He will be roasting whole animals, local seafood, sourcing local veggies, produce, taking advantage of the North Fork’s bounty. You all know that Keith always takes this to another level and blows minds.
“Let it be known now that this will be OFF THE CHARTS.”
The event starts at 2 p.m. at the South Jamesport Avenue property, with G. Love — who first came on the scene with hit single “I Like Cold Beverages” in 1994 — taking the stage about 7 p.m. and playing until dark.
“Keith, the chef and partner is a musician. He’s a drummer. I’m a guitar player. And we’ve been trying to get something together to use our property for awhile,” Mr. Kaminski said when asked how the team landed G. Love for such a small venue.
“It’s so gorgeous,” he said of the property. “We’ve been doing gallery showings in the barn, using it for art exhibits, but we wanted to get some other sort of art going on, art and music. It was a sort of weird twist of friends of friends and getting the word out. We got in touch with [G. Love’s] people and we asked, ‘Hey, would you be into it? Fourth of July. Just come and hang out and we’ll put you up in the inn.'”
Weather permitting, the show will be on the property’s lawn, Mr. Kaminski said, adding that the organizers didn’t need special permits from Riverhead Town because the event will be drawing a small amount of people.
