Greenport: Friends of Floyd Memorial Libray to raffle off tickets for harbor tour aboard Glory

I take back every single, solitary nice word I had to say about rain in last week’s column. Yes, it’s true: It alleviates the task of having to water my garden. But the weeds that I spent hours upon hours removing have returned (with a vengeance, I might add) and brought along some friends to join them!

This is graduation week at Greenport Schools. So I’d like to congratulate all of our graduates — the Class of 2023 (better known as this year’s kindergarten class), who graduated Tuesday, and the Class of 2017, whose sixth-grade graduation was held yesterday. For this year’s seniors, the Class of 2011, I have a special message. In my humble opinion, you’re one of the best classes to ever graduate from GHS.

I will miss you all next year and hope that the future finds all your dreams coming true. Parents, you should be extremely proud of the children you raised. Congratulations to you all.

On Saturday, June 25, the Friends of Floyd Memorial Library will raffle off three pairs of tickets for a harbor tour on David Berson’s electric boat, Glory. You can purchase tickets at the library, or visit the Friends this Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Greenport Farmers Market, where they will have a table. The Friends help fund children’s programs and other cultural events at the library.

Looking ahead to July, Liz Morrison will hold a fundraiser yard sale for the La Leche League of Greenport on Saturday, July 9, from 8 a.m. to noon at 421 2nd St., Greenport. She is looking for donations of items in good condition. Contact her at 477-5914 or [email protected].

Also on July 9, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church will hold a chinese auction in the parish hall starting at 11 a.m. Admission is $5 per person, which includes six tickets. The drawings will be held at 1:30 p.m.

Congratulations to the members of the Greenport American Legion’s Burton-Potter Post, who had a very successful fish fry this past Sunday. The best guess-timate is that they served around 500 dinners. You’ve got to love the Greenport community; they sure do come out to support local causes.

Celebrating birthdays during the upcoming week are Chris Latney, Betty Kiernan, Sarah Manfredi, Karre Brown and Mark Lyskiborski on the 24th; Steven Webb and Starrfire Edwards on the 26th; Bonnie Angevine and AnnaChrista Garren on the 27th; Arthur Smith, Bob Saetta and Brandon Quarty on the 28th; and one very dear lady and very special friend of mine, Judy Marshall, on the 29th.

This week’s anniversaries include Nancy and Tim Mullen’s on June 24; Nancy and Richard Jensen’s 39th on June 25; and MaryAnne and Tim Newalis’ on the 28th. Within my own family, my brother-in-law and his wife, Mike and Chris Dinizio, celebrate their 24th anniversary on June 27, and my daughter and son-in-law, Jenn and Dan Decker, celebrate their second anniversary on the 28th.
