Motorcycle driver killed Sunday in Greenport crash

An East Islip man driving a motorcycle east on the North Road was killed shortly after noon Sunday during a collision with a westbound vehicle turning left onto Albertson Lane, Southold Police said.

William Helmsorig, 45, of Islip Terrace died after his motorcycle was struck by a car driven by Effie Diakos, 75, of East Marion, according to reports. Police said Ms. Diakos failed to yield the right of way when turning onto Albertos Lane and the vehicles collided.

Both were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital where Mr. Helmsorig was pronounced dead, said police.
