Southold-Peconic: Girl Scout Troop 2462 car wash fundraiser

Your favorite seasonal fruits and vegetables are beginning to appear at local farm stands. Strawberry lovers are currently enjoying this early June treat. If you have some extra time, pick your own! You’ll be surprised at how enjoyable it can be.

Another seasonal favorite is the arrival of the “Boys of Summer,” the North Fork Ospreys. They played their first game of the season Sunday against the Riverhead Tomcats. Ryan Williams hit a bases-loaded RBI single, bringing Darrin Standish home for the first run of the season. The Ospreys defeated the Tomcats, 7-1. The Ospreys take on Southampton tonight, Thursday, at 7 at Cochran Park in Peconic. All are welcome to enjoy the finest in collegiate baseball. It’s fun, free and a great way to spend an early summer night.

It was a beautiful weekend for the Relay for Life event held at Cochran Park in Peconic. The winner of the Mixed Nuts team’s annual 50/50 raffle was Gordon Smith. He generously donated his winnings back to the American Cancer Society.

Former Southold resident Brian Kraehling and his wife, Kimberly, welcomed their second child, Christopher Brian, on May 24. Ready to help with her new brother is big sister Isabella. The Kraehlings reside in Mastic. Proud grandparents are Anne and Paul Kraehling of Southold.

Tonight, Thursday, June 9, Southold junior-senior high school student musicians will present the small ensembles concert in the district auditorium at 7:30.

Belated anniversary wishes to George and Carol DeLong, who toasted 50 years of marriage on June 2.

Birthday wishes are sent to Pam Parma on the 10th, Kerry Conrardy on the 11th, Stephanie Suter on the 12th, and both Don Marshall and Monica Rowsom on the 14th.

This Saturday evening at 6 at the Southold American Legion Hall, the Southold West Branch of the Eastern Long Island Hospital Auxiliary will present “Beatles Music and Burgers.” Enjoy the sounds of The Liverpool Shuffle as they cover Beatles tunes. Tickets are $40 each and include a complimentary glass of wine or beer, a choice of gourmet burgers or chicken kabobs, salad and dessert. Call 765-2206 to reserve your tickets.

Girl Scout Troop 2462 will hold a car wash this Sunday, the 12th, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the recreation center in Peconic. Proceeds will help the troop with future projects as well as the North Fork Animal Welfare League.

A fond farewell to my in-laws, longtime Southold residents Kay and Tom Byrnes, who relocated to Cape Coral, Fla., earlier this week. They are known to many as the original proprietors of the North Road Deli. All the best to them as they begin a new chapter in their lives.
