Michael J. DeVito

Michael J. DeVito of Mattituck died suddenly on June 28 at the age of 47.

He was born May 30, 1964, in Flushing, N.Y., to Paul and Dorothy (Cathers) DeVito and moved to Mattituck when he was 15.

He graduated from Mattituck High School and Suffolk County Community College and was a chef for the Southold Town Senior Nutrition Program. He had also been a bartender at Four Doors Down and the former Mattituck bowling alley.

Mike enjoyed cooking and was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Yankees, according to family members. He also enjoyed science, particularly marine biology and astronomy, they said.

He is survived by his parents and his sister, Paula, all of Mattituck.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 1, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck, where services will take place Saturday, July 2, at 10 a.m. Deacon Jeff Sykes of Sacred Heart Parish will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mattituck Fire Department or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
