Art Beat: Greenport Gallery Walk this weekend
• This month’s Greenport Gallery Walk takes place Saturday, July 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. Participating galleries include deCordova Studio & Gallery, Gallery M, Greenport Art & Design, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company, John Jude Glass Gallery, The South Street Gallery & Framers, Springsteel Gallery, Studio East Gallery, Terrence Joyce’s Dockside Gallery and Winter Harbor Gallery.
Walks will continue on the third Saturday of each month through November.
• The East End Arts Council will present ‘About the Sea,’ part of its “Third Thursday” discussion series, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Brecknock Hall in Greenport. The talk is held in conjunction with the upcoming South Street Gallery show of the same name and the July 16 Greenport Gallery Walk.
Guests will include Lochlin Reidy, a survivor of a sea disaster whose story is told in the book “Overboard!,” and local poet and writer Billy Hands. South Street Gallery’s Amy Worth will moderate the discussion. Admission is free. Call 369-2171 or visit eeacSchool.blogspot.com.
• ‘Laura Westlake: Masterworks in Color Pencil’ will open at Gallery M in Greenport with receptions on Friday and Saturday, July 16 and 17, 4 to 7 p.m.
• Work by several North Fork artists, including Amy Worth, Harvey Hellering, Hector deCordova and Bob Berks, will be featured in the Sunday, July 17, live and silent art auction, “Making Waves on Mecox Bay,” to benefit 88.3 WPPB-FM. The event will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Water Mill home of Stormy Byorum Good, with a rain date of July 24. Mr. deCordova, owner of deCordova Gallery in Greenport, is the auction’s curator.

• Artwork by Mario Tomiatti is on view through August at Southold Free Library.
• Northeast Stage, which will present “Romeo and Juliet” at Greenport’s Mitchell Park in August, will offer Café Shakespeare, an afternoon of “random acts of Shakespeare” performed by local actors, on Saturday, July 17, 3 to 5 p.m. at Comtesse Thérèse Bistro & Winery in Aquebogue. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted in support of Northeast Stage’s programming and classical training for local actors.
The group plans a preview performance of “Romeo and Juliet” for 5 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at the bistro. The Mitchell Park performances are set for Aug. 5, 6 and 7 at 7 p.m.Call 208-6933 or find Northeast Stage on Facebook.
