Greenport: Skate park fest, church art show, ELIH design boutique

Congratulations are definitely in order for Alexis Reed and her field hockey teammates from the East End Gems traveling team, who competed last week in a tournament at Trinity College in Hartford. Alexis plays goalie and registered seven shut-outs. The Gems took first place; way to go, girls!

I think everyone, at some point in their lives, would like to be recognized as a national champion at something. Payge Corazzini has realized that dream many times over. This past week Payge and her baton-twirling team,  the Clarkettes, competed in the national championships and walked away with three titles: national senior large twirl team champions (for the second time); national senior open corps champions (for an impressive fifth time!); and national senior large dance twirl champions. They hit the road again in two weeks for the international competition.  Congratulations and good luck to all the Clarkettes!

The third annual Greenport Skate Park Festival will take place Saturday, July 30 (rain date is Sunday, July 31) from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be live music, raffle prizes, vendors and family fun for all. There festival is free but there’s a $10 entrance fee to participate in skateboarding events, open to those age 7 through adult. Park supporters need volunteers and donations and are looking for corporate/business sponsorships and or parents willing to contribute funds and/or services. If you’d like to help out, call 631-484-3536 or email [email protected]. All proceeds from this event will go toward renovating the skate park, which is in dire need of repair.

The date has been changed for the fine arts and craft show at Holy Trinity Church. It’s now set for Sept. 16 and 17. Ten-foot-square vendor spaces are still available for $25. If you’re interested, call Laura at 953-3382 or 477-6759. Registration deadline is Aug. 15.

The ELIH Auxiliary will hold a Dream Designs Boutique July 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring clothing, jewelry, handbags, etc. No location was given, but I’m guessing it will be held in the hospital conference room (call 477-5196 to be certain!).

Birthday wishes go out this week to Bill Kart Jr., Jeff Corazzini, Tina Leonard, Emily O’Brien, China Leonard and Karen Mazzaferro Jimenez on July 21; Alexis Hubbard on the 22nd; Jerry Urban on the 23rd; Warren Jensen (in Maryland), Judy Ahrens and Betty Capon on the 24th; Melissa Simpson Martinkat, Sally Jacobs, Ali Lauber and Gabby Pope on the 25th; Megan Wolfteich, Jane Ratsey Williams, Pat Urban and one of my favorite people, Dawn Jacobs, on the 26th; and Jillian Foertsch and Matthew Brown on the 27th.
