Art Beat: Bronze bust and print show

• What does a 20-inch bronze bust of a woman peeking from behind a veil have to do with Eastern Long Island Hospital? The sculpture, “Masquerade” by Peggy Mach of Aquebogue, will be auctioned live during the hospital’s 2011 Gala to benefit the emergency department on Saturday, Aug. 13, at McCall Vineyard and Preserve in Cutchogue. “Masquerade,” which Ms. Mach cast using the ancient lost wax method, can be seen at the Terrence Joyce Gallery in Greenport, where silent bids, starting at $3,000, may be placed. Bids will be accepted through Aug. 11 by mail or by email at [email protected].

• Hampton Bays student Elizabeth Lowry has been named the Paul Sisson Memorial Fund’s 2011 scholarship recipient. Elizabeth is a vocal student at the East End Arts Council School of the Arts in Riverhead.
The memorial fund was created nine years ago by Friends of Riverhead Free Library in memory of Mr. Sisson, who played a big part in the development of the library’s Piano Plus Concert Series.

• ‘The Print Show,’ a juried print media exhibit, will open Friday, July 22, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. at the East End Arts Council gallery in Riverhead. The juror is Craig Zammiello, a master print maker and arts educator.
Mr. Zammiello will give a talk at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at the gallery, part of EEAC’s First Fridays Artist Talk Series.
‘The Print Show’ will be on view through Aug. 26.
