Blotter: Boating accident reported in Plum Gut

A Queens man reported a boat accident to Southold Town Police while fishing in Plum Gut at 9:30 a.m. July 10. Police said Robert Perez, 46, of Malba, Queens, reported that his boat was struck from behind by another boat driven by Brock Lownes, 54, of Amagansett. Mr. Perez reported damage to his starboard transom and engine. Both men were advised to report the incident to their insurance companies.

• A property owner on Sigsbee Road in Laurel reported July 13 that someone set fire to a portable bathroom on his property sometime since the previous evening and then put the fire out by throwing sand on it. Police said the incident may have been an accident.

• MaryBeth Bilunas, 59, of Riverhead was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center on July 14, after an accident at the intersection of Old Sound Avenue and Factory Avenue with a car driven by Shannon Reitz, 27, of Riverhead.

• Jenny Skirel, 79, of Mattituck and a 3-year-old passenger in a second vehicle were hospitalized on the afternoon of July 14 after Ms. Skirel failed to yield the right of way when turning from Route 48 onto Mary’s Road in Mattituck, according to police reports. The Mattituck Fire Department transported Ms. Skirel to Peconic Bay Medical Center and took the child to Eastern Long Island Hospital.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
