East Marion boat ramp reopens after nine months

The boat ramp in East Marion is now open.

The Oysterponds boat ramp off Main Road in East Marion is open this week after being closed for nine months.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation, which owns the boat ramp, closed it to boats in late October because several cement panels at the end had moved and then were further compromised due to wave action during storms.

Last week, the DEC removed eight concrete slabs from the end of the ramp, which is now 36 feet shorter. Signs at the site inform boaters of the ramp’s new dimensions.

The DEC advises boaters to take tide cycles into account when launching from the shortened ramp.
