Gus. C. Klavas

Gus C. Klavas of Southold and Beechhurst, N.Y., passed away on June 29. He was 83 years old, the beloved husband of Angela (née Alexander) for 51 years and the loving father of Kathryn and TJ Bucci Jr. and Peter and Jill Klavas of Southold. He is the cherished grandfather of Christopher, Angela and William Bucci and Angelica, Gus and Anthony Klavas. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Kleoniki Klavas, and three sisters, Olga Asvestos, Mary Batlas and Despina Nopulos.

Gus was born in Weirton, W.Va., on March 5, 1928. His family moved to New York City when he was a young boy. In 1955 he went into the electronics business in Richmond Hill, N.Y. Many of his competitors have since relocated or gone out of business, but Anchor Electronic Distributor Corp., named and established by Gus, continues to operate in the same location after 56 years. Gus had a long and strong working relationship with his son, Peter, who began working at Anchor as a teenager and while he was attending St. John’s University. Gus transferred ownership and the running of the business to Peter 10 years ago, but remained active in the business, insisting on not retiring.

In November 2010, after 35 years of living in Southold as part-time residents, Gus and Angela moved to Southold full-time. Gus had a passion for boating and fishing and also loved gardening and cooking.
