Homeless man arrested in connection with Southold burglaries

Southold Police say the arrest of a homeless man early Friday morning clears the break-ins at two Main Road stores late last week.

John F. Green, 42, faces two counts of third-degree burglary. Police said he was caught on store security cameras breaking into an East Marion deli. A patrol officer spotted a man matching the description of the person shown on the surveillance video walking along Horton’s Lane in Southold just before 7 a.m. Friday. Police said Mr. Green had the proceeds from the break-in with him at the time of his arrest.

Police said investigators linked Mr. Green to the burglary Thursday of a Peconic flower shop.
