Cops: Riverhead bank robbery suspect arrested

The man police say robbed the Capital One bank branch on Route 58 in Riverhead on Friday just before noon was arrested on County Road 39 in Southampton on Saturday at about 6 p.m., Riverhead Town Police reported early on Sunday.

The arrest was made with the help of the Southampton Town Police, the State Police and the Southampton Village Police, according to the Riverhead department.

Caleb Christiansen of Jones Road in East Quogue was charged with third degree robbery and taken to Riverhead police headquarters. He was to be arraigned on Sunday, police said.

Christiansen approached a teller at the bank and produced a note demanding money, according to the account of the robbery released by police. He was given an undetermined amount of cash and fled on foot in an unknown direction, police said.
