Vincent T. Heffernan died peacefully on August 16 at age 91 after a long and happy life. Vincent was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Joan Heffernan. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Terence and Som Heffernan, Bangkok, Thailand; daughter and son-in-law Claire and Timothy Fabrizio, Rochester; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Deborah Heffernan, Merrick; grandchildren Gaelen (Angela) Kash, Richmond, Va., Christopher (Noreen) Heffernan, Glen Rock, N.J., Brian Heffernan, Merrick and Devin Heffernan, Merrick. Also by his great-grandchildren Autumn and Aidan Kash, Cayleigh and Kendall Heffernan, and Kim and Ken Sripauk.
Vincent is native of New York City, a graduate of Fordham University, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he attained the rank of captain and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He enjoyed a 35-year sales career in the paper industry. He lived in Merrick for many years before retiring to Southold, N.Y.
Calling hours were August 19 at N.F. Walker Funeral Home, 2039 Merrick Ave., Merrick. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, North Merrick, on August 20. Contributions in Vincent’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
