Irene causing North Fork cancellations

The approach of Hurricane Irene has prompted the cancellation of several weekend events and a a one-day delay in the flight of the osprey sculpture from Greenport to Jean Cochran Park in Peconic.

The osprey will be carried by helicopter on Thursday, Sept. 1, with the time to be announced.

Southold Town has closed all beaches and they will remain closed through the weekend. After the storm, town officials will determine whether they can be reopened for the Labor Day weekend.

The Southold Anti-Bias Task Force has cancelled it’ second annual community picnic scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 27.

Further cancellations will be posted as they’re received.

Sportswriter Robert Lipsyte’s scheduled Sunday appearance at Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport has been postponed to Sept, 4 at 3 p.m. My Lipsyte will discuss his memoir, “An Accidental Sportswriter.”
