Hospital sets up emergency operations center

Peconic Bay Medical Center set up an emergency operations center in conference rooms on the second floor Saturday afternoon.

According to CEO Andy Mitchell, the emergency operations center in conference rooms A, B, and C is where all information about Hurricane Irene will be monitored.

There are charts, radios and satellite phones to communicate both internally and externally during the hurricane.

The hospital ended visiting hours at 6 p.m. Saturday and locked its front doors. The emergency room will remain open through the brunt of the storm tonight and Sunday.
